Boiled Pear Cake

2 c. sugar
2 c. water
2 c. raw pears, cut into cubes
1 c. butter
2 tsp. cloves
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
 

Bring all above ingredients to a boil
for a few minutes.  Cool, add 3 cups
flour and 2 tsp. soda. Pour into
9x13 pan and bake at 350 deg.
till toothpick comes out dry, about
35 minutes.

Caramel Frosting for Boiled Pear Cake:

1 c. brown sugar
1/3 c. butter
1/4 c. milk

Boil all ingredients together for 2 minutes
on low heat.  Add 2 cups powdered sugar
(1 cup at a time), and 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla.
If too hard, add milk 1/2 tsp. at a time
until right for spreading.
